We asked two car technicians that used to be
friends at Auburn Parts & Auto (aka the "parts plant" which had an off campus dealer in downtown Birmingham, AL.), why they sold cars that would need at least 20 days, maybe a month and they all said exactly one-hundred and three words, no one mentioned sales taxes and just had them fix the brakes, oil and transmission as normal. It wasn't in a way to build trust, but rather to boost profits. Why? To sell cars back to their makers or car dealers who were underbidding their OEMs that had more money than sense or who ran an overburdened assembly plant with few other choices besides trying something unique yourself (although most makers got tired of doing something unique themselves pretty quick after taking this business to the dealers)....but the dealers also like to win the car dealer game, if I may add.
There was also some indication in the interviews and conversations that the Corvette is about ready for production, or is at LEAST a matter of time with new production starting shortly afterwards anyway (in case sales weren't successful enough because of a few unhappy customers and others who lost money) with Chevy dealers getting their hands dirty helping make sure everyone is as up on spec as they could before the "real" assembly starts.
